Benefits to HVAC/R Systems
By combining the Microstaq valve and controller in HVAC and/or refrigeration systems, users will see numerous benefits including:
- Maximized system efficiency – between 5-20% energy savings depending on the system
- Precise super heat control
- Rapid pull down to set-point
- Stable temperature control
- Improved overall system reliability from better protection of the compressor from liquid flood-backs and more stable pressure control
- Improved individual component reliability through the use of only 2 moving parts
- Easy installation and fast payback period for retrofits
- Real-time ability to communicate, monitor, diagnose, and manage system status
- Refrigerant charge reduction capability
- True “plug n’ play” solution for multiple applications including: A/C, Heat Pump, single and multi-evaporator systems with t-stat, EPR, and EEPR, in low, medium, and high temperature applications

How it Works
Microstaq’s Silicon Expansion Valve (SEV) and Super Heat Controller (SHC) combine to achieve energy savings for air conditioning and refrigeration applications through precise superheat and refrigerant flow management. This superior superheat and flow management is a result of two significant improvements in the design of the SEV and SHC relative to Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV) and Pulse Motor Valve (PMV) products:
1. The SEV can achieve full open and close in 250ms, 50x faster than today's best electronic expansion valves. This enables much more precise refrigerant delivery and simplified controls.
2. The SHC constantly monitors temperature and pressure data, returning commands to the SEV based on real-time data. This electronic closed feedback loop constantly adjusts to changing conditions.
These two significant differences enable HVAC/R units equipped with the Microstaq SEV and SHC products to reach maximum system efficiency faster, enabling less “on” time for compressors in both HVAC/R cycling as shown on the top left, and pull-down time for refrigeration on the top right.
